The Mouth
for soprano solo and Electronics
score
Saunders, Rebecca
The Mouth by Rebecca Saunders is a 15-minute work for soprano solo and
electronics. The piece asks: What is this intimate voice, what is there that
is repressed, held back, sinking beneath the surface? And what can be said,
if anything can be said? The text is written by the composer. The work
explores the wide range of colours and sounds produced in the oral cavity.
The world premiere took place on 5 September 2020 at the Centre Pompidou,
Paris, with Juliet Fraser (soprano). The score is available for sale and
includes performance notes, as well as explanatory notes for the electronics
as a separate brochure.
