Giovanni 'Nino' Rota was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor and academic, who is best known for his film scores for the first two films of Coppola's Godfather trilogy, receiving the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Godfather. The Godfather is a 1972 American crime film based on the best-selling novel of the same name. It stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a fictional New York crime family.
