Violuminescence
for violin
Festinger, Richard
Violuminescence is a compact 11-minute concerto in four continuous movements for violin and chamber orchestra. Richard Festinger's title refers to the luminous quality of the violin when it plays expressively in its high register and plays on the word bioluminescence: the light from fireflies and jellyfish. After an award and a performance by Bayla Keyes and the Boston Chamber Ensemble, Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe praised the concerto as music, colorful, closely argued, dramatic and interesting.
