Twinning was commissioned in 1994 by the California Association of Professional Music Teachers and was an award-winner in the Music Teachers National Association's Composers Competition. In its intimate instrumental exchanges over 12 minutes and three movements the critic Michelle Dulak observed that Richard Festinger's lines in Twinning are ‘akin to the growth of “twinned” crystals.’
