New York
pour 2 saxophones altos
partition
Girard, Anthony
New York puts together several complex pieces for two alto saxophones, ideal for advanced students. Combining virtuosity and expressiveness, it offers a rich exploration of the instrument's timbres and dynamics. Performers must master advanced techniques, guaranteeing a captivating and daring performance.
New York (2005) is a suite of six pieces for two alto saxophones. Each piece has a distinct character and a specific musical approach:
Révolte nocturne : rhythmic writing, in 7/8 time, with a constant dialogue between the two instruments.
Le dernier songe dOphélie : an expressive piece, requiring rubato playing, in homorhythm.
Poiursuite : writing similar to the first piece, with constant changes in meter.
New York : a humorous tribute to Steve Reich. The piece invites a brief experience of 'phase shifting,' characteristic of this composer.
Aurore boréale : a mysterious and melodious piece, with a contemplative character.
Road movie : second nod to 'repetitive' music, where an unchanging ostinato and a 'floating' melody are superimposed, evoking the vastness of the American plains.
