The secular texts are drawn from English poets of the 17th and 18th centuries: 1. To Saint Cecilia (Anonymous), 2. Music, the greatest good that mortals know (Joseph Addison), 3. To Music. A Song (Robert Herrick), 4. In Commendation of Music (William Strode). The melodious choral parts are well within the reach of high school singers and the keyboard part is not difficult. Suitable for school choirs, community choirs, and some church choirs.
