Strauss, Richard
Richard Strauss was born in Munich, Germany on June 11, 1864 and died in 1949. He is considered one of Germany's greatest composers and a master of orchestration. For his tone-poems ("Till Eulenspiegel", "Don Quixote", "Death and Transfiguration", "A Hero's Life") and his fabulous operas {"Der Rosenkavalier", "Salome") he created a sound capable of expressing the whole gamut of human emotion. His art songs continue to please audiences and are favored in recitals by the finest artists. Among them, ALLERSEELEN ("All Souls' Day) is one of his most notable successes. This setting for orchestra brings to the concert hall the surging melody, carefully controlled dynamics, and innate glory of this powerfully moving composition. Instrumentation in set: 2+Picc.2.2+BCl(opt).2: 4.3.3.1: Perc(5): Str (9-8-7-6-5).
